Before reading Chapter 1, consider the following:
assignment 1

how does a mystery novel differ from a narrative?

A mystery novel is different from a narrative because a narrative story is normally about someone's life and his or her difficulties. It is trying to show you the hope of the person you are reading about or the sadness and how he or she came through, kind of like a soap opera (especially with the series books). A mystery is supposed to grab the reader and make him or her keep reading. The main point I think is to entertain the reader while a narrative is trying to move the reader spiritually or mentally or just to create this sort of dramatic environment.

How might the title be a clue to the story?

The title And Then There Were None leads me to believe that there were people somewhere (supposedly Indian Island) and now they are gone. The people in this book, I am guessing, are going to have to find the missing people and figure out who put them where they are and why did they did it.
From reading ahead, I think that since they don't know for sure who owns Indian Island, they will be thrown off. By thinking that one person owns the island, they go there to investigate and there will be no people, evidence, etc...By the way, I don't really want this to be graded. This is really just for me so that I can keep all my thoughts in order.

So far from reading (I am not very far) I think that Vera is going to get murdered or kidnapped when she arrives at the island. Anyone else who goes near the island will be killed by one of the owners.

Assignment: Add a new page. Create a link from your page to the student pages. On your new page, answer the two questions above in one solid paragraph. In the second paragraph, make one prediction - something that you think might happen or something that you might expect about a character in the story.

Whew! There are some very good points, but some very bad spelling and grammar mistakes! We will have to work on this tomorrow or Thursday. We also have to add one more link as the link at the top of this page is not hot. If you do not want the title to be a link, then we need to make one so you can navigate to a few other pages.

Chapter 2
assignment 2

find four examples of suspense OR foreshadowing in chapter two. write the exact wording from the book. in a well-written paragraph, explain why these sentences clearly show either suspense or foreshadowing

In chapter two there is a lot of foreshadowing and suspense. An example of foreshadowing is on page 33, it says "You lost touch with the world-and island was a world of its own. A world, perhaps from which you might never return." That is foreshadowing that he or any one else on that island might never return, being dead. "He was anxious to find out a a little about these people who owned Indian Island, but Narrocott seemed curiously ill informed, or perhaps unwilling to talk." Well, if he is unwilling to talk then i think that that indicates that he knows something that now one else does and that he wants to avoid telling them but he really doesn't know and that he is really not very informed then that is going to be somthing totaly diffrent and it is totaly diffrent because of the fact that hey no one knows how these people are!
"...-a poem...Ten little Indian boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were Nine.
Nine little Indian boys sat up very late; One overslept himself and then there were Eight.
Eight little Indian boys traveling in Devon; One said he'd stay there and then there were Seven.
Seven little Indian boys chopping up sticks; One chopped himself in halves and then there were Six.
Six little Indian boys playing with a hive; A bumblebee stung one and then there were Five.
Five little Indian boys going in for law; One got into Chancery and then there were Four.
Four little Indian boys going out to sea; A red herring swallowed one and then there were Three.
Three little Indian boys walking in the Zoo; A big bear hugged one and then there were Two.
Two little Indian boys were out in the sun; One got all frizzled up and then there was one.
One little Indian boy left all alone; He went out and hanged himself and then there were none."
I think that is foreshadowing that this is how all the poeple are going to die, one by one, diffrent each time.
Hannah-
I'd like to work on your writing on the WIKI. Let's meet at recess this week. You have good ideas, but your punctuation and grammar, etc. need work. Mrs. M

Chapter 3
assignment 3

Write two sentences telling what you know about your charcter
BOLD the character's name and write your sentences about that character right underneath his or her name

Vera Elizabeth Claythorne, killed Cyril Ogilvie when distracted by someting else (which I think was Hugo who said that he loved her). He was killed when he swam to far out at sea and since she was distacted she was to late when she went out to save him. I think it was an accodint, she didn't want to kill this child it just happened that when she didn't stay focus on her job it ended up that he died. She got the blam when really I don't think it should all go on to her.
Edward Goerge Brent, killed Louisa Mary Clees during an opperation is what I persume, he told everyone that it was during the opperation and that because he was the surgene he was blammed. When really he was drunk and he opperated when he should of said no. Because he was drunk he killed Louisa.
Philip Lombard, out of his own selfish reasons killed tweenty one men who were members of an East African tribe. His story was that they were trapped and he along with several other people took the remainings of the food and ate ot for themselves. He also included that the tribe didn't mind dieing, still he was selfish and left them to die.
John Gordon Macarhur, out pure jealousy he delbitly killed the man that his wife loved. Arthur Richmond, that was the man that Mrs. Gordon had fallen in love with even though she was married. John was jealous and one thing leads to another, he killed him.
Anothony James Marston, as we have learned is living life to the fulliest, but what we didn't know is that he killed to people. He did this by crusing rather fast and when John and Lucy Combes cross the street it is to late for them, Anothony James Marston runs over them.

Chapter 1-14
Assignment 4

Chapter 1In chapter, one we find out al the characters and learn that they all have been invited to Indian Island. Indian Island has had many rommers about who officaly ownes it. This first chapter takes place around 1940, it is being held and the homes of some characters, in the cars of others and on the train to a couple.

Chapter 2
The characters finaly meet each other and set of to the island in chapter two. When they get to the island they meet the Rogers who are the servents, they all get settled in and some find a little poem, that i think will be a huge factor in this book. The place is Devon and Indian Island, and the time again is currently around 1940.

Chapter 3
Chapter tree starts of with all the characters gathering around for dinner and what they discover at the dinner table is some china of ten little indians which I also think is a huge factor in the book. As they all are injoying the dinner a record is being played that lists of each person on the island and tells them what sort of death they have convicted, this makes Mrs. Rogers faint because of what she hears of her past. After it is done they find the sorce and try to discover how it was put on, Mr. Rogers conesses and says it was a letter from Mr Owen telling him to put it on. They then all go around stating what sort of letter they got and what it said, everyones letter was diffrent and that concluded to Mr. Blore (who now has been reveled) that it was a lunitic after them. (place indian island time 1940)

Chapter 4
During Chpater four we learn how everyones murders or accednets happend, eccept for Mrs Bernt who keeps hers to her self. Once everyone has learned what they can about everones incodients they decide that they all want to go home, that this is some practical joke that they really don't want to be in, but they soon find out that there is no boat and that they will have to wait till the morining. Anthony Marston, who lives life to the fullest wants to find out what this crazy mystery could be, he takes a drink of his drink and chokes...
Chapter 5To start of Chpater five Anthony Marston has died! Dr. Armstong has concluded that in his drink there was some sort of drug that caused him to die. The assumption to that is that he wanted to kill himself, no one understands why because he was such a livley man but that is all they have. (If you ask me, he didn't want to die the drug was put in there by the lunitic, and i think that becuase when he went to go get the water and soda they were already made form him which leads me to believe that that lunitic is constently in the house). After the whole comoshinsion ended they all went up to there rooms and locked there doors except for Mr. Rogers he put they dishes away and then noticed that one of the china indians were missing... When Vera was in her room getting ready for bed she looked at the mantal and saw the poem and how ironic it was that Anthony died the same way as the first indian...

Chapter 6Mrs. Rogers dies in her sleep at the beginging of Chapter six. Everyone tries to figure out how she could have but Mr. Armstrong doesn't have any medical records so he can't conclude ot how she died but Mr. blored being a detective thinks of how it could be possiable for Mr. Roger to kill his own wife. After breakfast everyone goes out to see if the boat has came but it hasn't and it normaly comes at 8 when then it was ten to ten. To end chapter six Mr. Rogers asks to speak to Mr. Armstrong to tell him that know there are only eight little indians...
Chapter 8In Chapter seven Dr. Armstong, Mr. Blore, and Philip Lombard try to figure out the mystery. They first try to understand the china figures, they conclude that some one is on the island and trying to mess with them by killing them and then try toget in there heads and freak them out. They also try to figure out the deaths and how they are all realated, they think at first that Anthony was suicidal and that Mrs. Rogers was killed by her husband, but then they think avout it again and think that Anthony wan't the suicuadle type and that this all has come down to a murder. They then wanted to search for the island so they set out on a search and what they concluded was that there could be little whole on the side of the cliff were the murder is living so Mr. Blore went back to look for some rope while Philip and Armstong waited. Philip wanted to "test some theroys" so he left...then when blore can back they took the rope and Lombard went down and saw that there were no homes and that they were the only ones on the island!!! ON there way back to the house they say Msacarthur and stoped to tell him that lunch whould be on its way but he was soo out of it and "mad".

Chapter 7
In chapter seven Mr. Rogers told Dr. Armstong about the little indians on the table and that there were only nine this morning after Anthony was killed and know there are only eight this morning, some beleive that it was a murder and others believe that it was sucidal but it doesn't matter because the boat isnt coming and they are stuck there with the murder. When Dr. Armstong finds out about the china figures he takes Philp Lombard with him to go do a little search of the island but they find noting.

Chapter 9
In Chapter nine there a lot of thinking and brainstorming, for example Blore thinks that Dr. Armstrong gave Mrs. Rogers the over does and killed her. Also they find Macarthur who went crazy lying on the beach dead!! Some people such as Vera Claythorne thought that he was the murder and now he is dead!! Dr. Armstong has concluded that Macarthur died by being hit in the head, he can't conclude what but he knows that he was hit in the head. Now there are only seven little indians left because of the death.
The storm has started, figuratively and literly...
Chapter 10In Chapter ten everyn=one goes about afrid and pretty much consulting with one other person, they all consult about: who the murder is
is it really one of them
and
why do they want to kill us, whos next?
They all have diffrent theoys but they all are on the same page, it's one of them and they are going to have to figure it out. Another thing that happens which proves to me that it is one of them is that no one dies which tells me murderer is a little afraid or doesn't want ot blow his cover yet.
Chapter 11 The search for Mr. Rogers occurs at the beginging of Chapter eleven. They find him with a axe through his head, he was chopping sticks. Which goes along perfectly with the peom. Mr. Blore suspected that it is Mrs. Brent who is the murdere because when they wake up in the morning she is already down there wandering around looking for the boat that is not ot come... Later they sit down for breakfast which has been made by Vera and Mrs. Brent. They all just look at each other to afriad to say anthing

Chapter 12
Breakfast had ended and right as Mrs. Brent stands up to clean thedishes she sits right back down because she is "giddy". The docter hands her something to drink but she refuses so Wargrave goes adn gets her a non-opened bottle and gives it to her, she tells everyone that they can leave and so they do. A bee enters the room though and she gets stabbed by something or someone and dies! Because of all of this there is five people left and no one trusts any one so they do a seach and the revolver that was in Lombards possesion is now gone...
Chapter 13
No one does anything in chpater thirteen but when somthing does everyone follows to make sure that there is nothing baaad going on. Tawards the end of the chapter Vera just couldn't take it, jus tsitting there!; so she went to her room when she got there though there was a smell of seaweed or somthing and then she felt the seaweed and she screamed! "All" the men came running up the stairs and to there suprise it actually wasn't a death only a fright (or a distraction), but when they went downstairs Wargrave was dead!

Chapter 14
In chapter fourteen they all try to go to bed but they all are restless. While Blore was trying to sleep he heard footsteps and considers ofr a good 3 minutes if he is going to go out there and se who it is or if he is just going to stay inside, he diecides that he is going to see what it is and him he sees Armstong walking out the door but to be certin he knocks on the door and no one anwsers so then he knocks on vera's and Lombards, they are both in there room. He asks Lombard to come with him and that Vera should stay in her room and not open it up. She does so the whole time and when they return from there look/search for Armstong they conclude that he has vanished!!

Chapter 15In Chapter fifteen the storm has stopped and there are only three people left on the island , it is Mr. Blore, Vera, and Philip. They are trying to figure out what happened to Mr. Armstong because they haven't found the body yet so they think that he is still out there going to kill them. They all go out to this island and they find a little place in the sun and they sit there for a while, Mr. Blore then wants to get somthing to eat so he goes back to this island alone, Philip and Vera are still in there little area by the sun when they here a thump and it is coming by the house, they go and check it out and it it that Mr. Blore is dead!!! They are to afraid to go in the house because they think that Dr. Armstrong is there so they go down by the cliff and to there suprise they see Dr. Amstong, sufficated and died!!

Chapter 16Two people remain in chapter sixteen. Vera thinks that tey should drag his body out of the reach of the water and as they do so she pick pockets Lombard and takes his gun because the only solution in her mind is that she isn't the killers so that means Lombard is. She is so frightend by him (because she thinks its him) that she shots and he dies. She is now not afraid because he was the murderer and she can go back to the house with out a feeling of fright but as she does she can't help but think of Hugo and with all of that think she goes insane. She come back to her room and sees an hook and a rope and a chair beneath the rope, in her mid she thinks this is what Hugo would want, for her to die. She steps on the car and ajusts the rope then kicks the rope away.

EpilogueIn the epilogue there are these "detectives" who are trying to annalyis this murder. They keep bringing up good points on why it can't be this person or why it can be another but they just can't figure out who it was. What they need is a surviver, but there weren't any...right?

A manuscript document sent to scotland yard by the master of the Emma Jane, fishing trawlerIn this little letter we find out who what the murder and how he/she a complished it. To my suprise the murderer was Lawrence Wargrave, he got Dr. Armstrong to be in with him so that when he Wargrave "died" the dr. would investigate and tell everyone that he is died. Dr. Armstrong went along with what Wargrave said becasue he believed that then he wouldn't be killed but he was wrong, Wargrave pushed him off of a cliff and he drowned. Wargrave was a scary man he killed himself without damaging the figerprints of Vera, Wargrave was a mad man who needed to kill people that could not be touched by the law with there murder.
